Fixing Faulty Toilets

Toilet constantly running or slow filling? (Fast, affordable fix)

If your toilet won’t stop running, keeps refilling, or takes ages to fill after flushing, it’s usually a simple cistern repair — and it can save you money on water bills and stop annoying noise.

Common symptoms

  • Toilet keeps running after flushing
  • Cistern refills by itself every few minutes
  • Weak flush / not enough water in the tank
  • Very slow filling (takes ages to refill)
  • Water trickling into the bowl

What I normally do

  • Diagnose the fault (fill valve, flush valve, seal, float level, blockage)
  • Adjust the float / water level
  • Replace worn parts if needed (quality parts fitted)
  • Test for leaks and correct refill/flush operation

Typical price

Normally repaired for between £35 to £50 (depending on what needs replacing).

Tip: If the toilet is running constantly, turning off the isolation valve (usually near the toilet) can stop water waste until I arrive.
